The first-ever BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé brings the four-door coupé concept that has already enjoyed success in higher vehicle classes into the premium compact segment for the first time. It injects a fresh dose of individuality, aesthetic appeal and emotional engagement, backed up by innovative operation and connectivity, everyday usability and the dynamic capability for which BMW is renowned. We were impressed with the powerful engine and the sophisticated chassis technology.

Exterior

The standout features include a dynamically stretched silhouette, four frameless side windows and rear lights extending into the center of the rear end, merging into a high-gloss black band that runs up to and encircles the centrally located BMW badge.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé embodies sporting prowess in a particularly concentrated form, with a vehicle concept focused squarely on dynamic excellence and an athletic sculptured design with long bonnet and an eye-catching front. The BMW kidney grille is horizontal in design and features vertically arranged air flaps at its heart in place of the classical bars. These open electrically when the engine has an increased need for cooling air.

Prominently flared wheel arches and a muscular power dome at the centre of the bonnet give a clear indication of the 2 Series Coupé’s dynamic driving characteristics. It has a fresh, youthful and extrovert aura following the brand’s new design language and offers pure driving pleasure.

Interior

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé also offers a premium cabin ambience and is more connected and confident with cutting-edge innovations and a much wider range of driver assistance systems.

The driver-focused cockpit design and modern control panel on the centre console accentuate the sporting aura inside the new BMW 2 Series Coupé. The high centre console and the smoothly blending surface treatment of the instrument panel and door panels create a cocooning feel around the driver and front passenger. We loved the three-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting and a Harman Kardon surround sound system that kept us entertained during drives.

Drive Technology

The new BMW 2 Series offers agile and precisely controllable handling in different situations. We were impressed with the steering precision and cornering dynamics and felt it was better than the predecessor model. The optimised ride comfort and acoustics enhance the car’s abilities both in everyday driving and over long-distance journeys.

With a six-cylinder in-line engine crowning its engine line-up, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé reinforces its claim to unsurpassed sporting prowess in the premium compact segment. All the engines team up as standard with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission.

Verdict

We loved both the exterior and interior elements but what made our journey more comfortable was the drive assist features such as the front-collision warning, Speed Limit Info, Lane Departure Warning and Cruise Control with brake function. The cloud-based navigation was fast with precise calculation of routes and arrival times, real- time traffic data updates at short intervals and the ability to enter any word when searching for destinations. This made a difference in the drive experience.
