Modern Craftsmanship: Bentley Flying Spur

By Shereen Shabnam

We recently had the new Flying Spur grace our garage. Sophisticated, poised and making a statement as the ultimate luxury ride next to my Cayenne Turbo and AUDI TT, the Flying Spur naturally took over drive experience for the week.

The captivating Bentley Flying Spur is a unique fusion of dynamic performance and modern craftsmanship and the contemporary design and its intuitive technology had us connected to the car and the world around us as we drove around Dubai.

Exterior
The new Flying Spur’s sharp lines, sculpted form and balanced proportions combine to create a commanding presence and we enjoyed the attention we had during the tailbacks near City Walk across our home.

The assertive design includes a new vertical vane matrix grille, cut-crystal effect headlamps, a 21” twin ten-spoke bright painted wheel as standard, and an optional new illuminating Flying B mascot.

Interior
We loved the contemporary design of the interior with atmospheric interior lighting creates a refined and comfortable environment for both the driver and passengers. The redesigned cabin, panoramic glass sunroof and the centre vents give it a premium look with the polished or optional diamond-knurled finish.

The harmonious interior features new twin flute seats, or you can opt for the Mulliner Driving Specification, with a new Lofted Diamond design that combines intricate stitching and embroidery.

The Bentley Connected Car features as well as the intelligent safety systems such as Local hazard information, Pedestrian Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition and a Top View Camera were impressive, giving complete confidence on the road. At the touch of a button, we were able to control the sunroof, ventilation and entertainment.

Performance

The Bentley Flying Spur delivers an enriching experience that is as refined as it is exhilarating. Built around a formidable 6.0 litre W12 engine, it produces 635 PS of power and 900 Nm of torque with a surge of power takes you from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds (0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds) and on to a top speed of 207 mph (333 km/h).

The eight-speed dual-clutch transmission enabled rapid gearshifts and smooth acceleration. It has a choice of four driving modes – Comfort, Sport, Bentley and Custom and driving with a young millennial who loves the sound of an aggressive engine meant we mostly drove in Sport mode.

Verdict
The personalisation options were perfect for our readers as they like bespoke services that make them stand out on the road and this is easy with the distinctive beauty of the new Flying Spur. There is a standard palette of 16 colours with an option of over 80 colours when you choose from the extended and Mulliner range. Inside, you can choose from 15 leather hides, with two duotone styles.

Overall, the new Bentley Flying Spur is a well engineered car, with an impressive interior and exterior and is a desirable option for luxury car buyers.
